Dr Abhas Mehrotra, Chief Eye Surgeon at the clinic is extensively trained at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, and also a Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO). Furthering his expertise, he underwent training at Universitat Klinikum, Hamburg, Germany, under the guidance of Prof G. Richard, a renowned pioneer in retinal surgery and the General Secretary of the European Retina Society. Prior to practicing at The Eye Clinic in Dehradun, he served as a Senior Resident at the esteemed Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS, New Delhi.

With a broad spectrum of experience, he possesses expertise in various eye-related investigations, treatments, and surgeries. His areas of special interest encompass the management of vitreo-retinal conditions, particularly those associated with diabetes and hypertension. 

Dr Abhas Mehrotra is an active life member of International Council of Ophthalmology, All India Ophthalmological Society, Delhi Ophthalmological Society, Uttarakhand Ophthalmological Society.

Research

Dr. Mehrotra has contributed extensively to the field of ophthalmology with numerous research publications in both Indian and international journals, including a peer-acclaimed publication on Optic Neuritis and Retinal diseases. He has also presented research papers at prestigious international platforms such as the North American Neuro-Ophthalmological Society in the USA, the European Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgery in Sweden, ARVO in Singapore, and the German Ophthalmic Society in Hamburg, among others. Additionally, Dr. Mehrotra has served as a speaker, convener of conferences, and moderator at various presentations within India. He and his team are actively engaged in ongoing research collaborations with other organizations, aiming to develop improved management strategies for retinal diseases.

Training

  • Member of the team for the Government of India-sponsored surgical camp for ‘Training of Trainers’ in Meghalaya, North East India, March 2006.
  • Participated in a surgical camp for skill transfer at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) in Dehradun, Uttaranchal, India, December 2006.
  • Contributed to the surgical team for Phase 2 Retinal Chip Implant at UKE, Hamburg, Germany, under the guidance of the pioneering Professor G. Richard.
  • Engaged in the “Reach In” program for cataract eradication at the Community Ophthalmology Department, RAPCOS, from June to December 2003.
  • Served as the Senior Resident In-charge of the Cataract Eradication program ‘Motiabind Mukti Abhiyan’ by the Government of India, from September to October 2006

  • Research Officer: Multi-centric, randomized, double-masked controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Intravitreal Fluocinolone acetonide (0.59 or 2.1 mg) implant in patients with non-infectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment of eye.
